Controllers…

Controllers are the officials appointed to make sure that events are fair and comply with BOF Rules, and may best be thought of as technical advisers and quality controllers. Their appointment is governed by BOF Rules detailing the necessary experience. There are three grades:

Grade A: for controlling major events at the highest level, such as British Championships.
Grade B: for controlling National events (old Level B)
Grade C: for controlling Regional events (old Level C) such as SWOA League events.

Those orienteers wanting to get a Grade C licence, or move from Grade C to B, or Grade B to A, need to look at the requirements set out in Appendix C to the BOF Rules.

Grade B and C controllers are appointed by their regional association on the recommendation of their club.
Grade A controllers are appointed at national level on the recommendation of their regional association; they have considerable experience as competitors, organisers, planners and controllers.

Application forms for appointment to Grades B and C may be got from the SWOA Recorder of Controllers. Forms for Grade A are got from BOF National Office.

All enquiries about the appointment of controllers in SWOA should be made to the Recorder of Controllers.

A list of all controllers in SWOA can be found here.
